Take Action: Discharge Your Debt
A Fresh Financial Start
While bankruptcy has a very bad reputation, it can actually be a beneficial way to get out of debt, and get your finances back track. When you are struggling with debt, it can be practically impossible to make any forward progress on paying off your bills. If you are using one credit card to pay off another credit card, you are not making any progress, but just transferring the debt around. Similarly, if you are only making your minimum monthly payments, you are getting more and more in debt each month because of the interest charges and penalties that you are accruing. Filing for bankruptcy can help you get back on track, by discharging your debt, so that you can have a fresh start. If you are considering filing for bankruptcy, or would just like some more information, contact Price Law Group today.
There are two different types of debt an individual may file for. Chapter 7 bankruptcy requires a means test, and will result in all or most of your debt being discharged. This is for people who have a low monthly income, as you must be below your state's average income to qualify.
Chapter 13 bankruptcy does not automatically forgive your debts, but helps you make a structured repayment plan with your creditors, so that you can afford to pay them back a little at a time. At the end of a 3 to 5 year period, the remained of your debt will likely be discharged, allowing you to start over with a clean slate. Both of these options will help you in the long run, as you will be able to get a handle on your finances instead of struggling month-to-month.
